Motorcycle Seats Redesigned for Comfort With Revolutionary IST Technology
Santa Ana, CA: In January 2018, Danny Gray Seats, a well-known builder of custom motorcycle seats, was awarded a patent for its revolutionary Independent Suspension Technology (IST). IST represents the first major change to the basic motorcycle seat design in the past 100 years. The traditional motorcycle seat consists of a solid, rigid pan topped with a foam cushion and a cover. Unfortunately, it leaves riders vulnerable to pain and unwelcome health effects caused by pressure and vibration, especially on long rides. IST improves on this design for better weight distribution and increased rider comfort.
With Danny Gray’s patented IST technology, strategically placed cutouts in the pan are topped with a flexible plastic membrane, like a trampoline. The cutouts are placed underneath the rider’s ischial tuberosities (sit bones). A foam cushion and Airhawk’s proprietary air cell pad go over the pan. This provides for optimal weight distribution, better air circulation and additional pressure relief. IST reduces or eliminates several of the most vexing problems motorcycle riders face, including:
- Hot spots and pressure points from uneven weight distribution.
- “Bottoming out.”
- Road shock from excessive vibration.
- Pain and discomfort, often in sensitive areas of the anatomy.
- Rider fatigue.
- Numbness.
- Heat and moisture buildup, which can cause significant skin irritation.
Danny Gray’s technology is compatible with motorcycles from all major manufacturers, including Harley Davidson, BMW, and Honda. Additionally, IST has other potential uses besides motorcycle seats. Future applications could include automobile seats, bicycles seats and more.
